The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the noblest of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for after: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim "As for adopting a regular gathering that recurs with the recurrence of weeks, months, or years, other than the prescribed gatherings, that resembles the gathering for the five daily prayers, for Jumu'ah, for the two festivals, and for Hajj. And that is the innovated, newly invented matter. So distinguish between what is adopted as a custom and habit, for that resembles the prescribed. This distinction is the stated position of Imam Ahmad and other Imams. Abu Bakr al-Khallal narrated in his book al-Adab from Ishaq ibn Mansur al-Kawsaj that he said to Abu 'Abdullah: 'Do you dislike it when people gather to invoke Allah and raise their hands?' He said: 'I do not dislike it for the brothers if they do not gather intentionally, except if they do it frequently'
Ishaq ibn Rahawayh said as he said. And the meaning of 'not doing it frequently' is that they do not make it a habit until they do it frequently. This is the statement of Ishaq. Al-Marwazi said: 'I asked Abu 'Abdullah about people who stay up at night, a reader recites and they invoke until they reach morning' "
The Shaykh : The meaning of the phrase 'except if they do it frequently' is because he said that it is a habit, it is 'except if they do it frequently' with the yaa dammah
The reader: "Al-Marwazi said: 'I asked Abu 'Abdullah about people who stay up at night, a reader recites and they invoke until they reach morning. He said: 'I hope there is no harm in that'
And Abu al-Sari al-Harbi said: 'Abu 'Abdullah said: "And what is better than people gathering to pray and remember the blessings Allah has bestowed upon them, as the Ansar did?"' This is a reference to what Ahmad narrated: 'Ismail narrated to us, Ayub informed us, from Muhammad ibn Sirin who said: "I was informed that the Ansar, before the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, said: 'Let us look for a day and gather in it, and remember this matter that Allah has bestowed upon us.' They said: 'Saturday.' Then they said: 'We will not coincide with the Jews on their day.' They said: 'Sunday.' They said: 'We will not coincide with the Christians on their day.' They said: 'The day of al-'Arubah.' And they used to call Friday the day of al-'Arubah. So they gathered in the house of Abu 'Umayrah As'ad ibn' "
The Shaykh : Al-'Arubah with fathah, and check it, check it, memorize it, al-'Arubah
The reader: "And they used to call Friday the day of al-'Arubah. So they gathered in the house of Abu 'Umayrah As'ad ibn Zararah, a sheep was slaughtered for them and it sufficed them
And Abu 'Umayrah al-Tarsusi said: 'I asked Ahmad ibn Hanbal about people who gather and a reader recites for them a sorrowful recitation and they weep, and perhaps they extinguish the lamp.' Ahmad said to me: 'If he recites the recitation of Abu Musa, there is no harm'
And al-Khallal narrated from al-Awza'i that he was asked about people who gather and they order a man to recite for them. He said: 'If that is one day after days, there is no harm in it'
So Ahmad conditioned the gathering for supplication on the condition that it is not made a habit. And he similarly conditioned visiting the places where the traces of the prophets are. Sindi al-Khawtami said: 'We asked Abu 'Abdullah about a man who visits these mosques and goes to them, do you see that?' He said: 'As for the hadith of Ibn Umm Maktum that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pray in his house, so that it would be taken as a place of prayer. And as for what Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do: he would follow the places of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his trace, then there is no harm in a man visiting the shrines, except that people have exaggerated in this greatly and done it frequently'
And Ahmad ibn al-Qasim transmitted from him similarly. And his wording is: 'He was asked about a man who visits these shrines in Madinah and elsewhere; does he go to them?' He said: 'As for the hadith of Ibn Umm Maktum and as for what Ibn 'Umar used to do: he would follow the places of the journey, he would follow the places of the journey of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his action, until "

The reader: " He said: 'As for this, there is no harm.' He said: 'And he permitted it.' Then he said: 'But people have exaggerated greatly and done it frequently in this meaning, so he mentioned the grave of al-Husayn and what people do at it.' And this which Ahmad and others disliked of making it a habit is transmitted from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and others when his companions adopted a place where they would gather for dhikr, so he came out to them and said: 'O people, either you are more guided than the companions of Muhammad, or you are on a branch of misguidance' "
