Reading from the author's words, with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "This and the like of it, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "This and the like of it, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do and ordered his Ummah to do at the graves of Muslims, after burial, and when visiting them or passing by them, is nothing but a greeting to the deceased, just as one greets the living, and a supplication for him, just as one supplicates for him when one prays for him before or after burial. And within the supplication for the deceased is the supplication of the living for himself and for the rest of the Muslims, just as the prayer over the funeral includes supplication for the one praying and for the rest of the Muslims, and the specific supplication for the deceased. All of this, and what is like it, is from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and what the earliest predecessors were upon, and it is what is prescribed for Muslims in this matter. It is what they used to do at the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and others.
Ibn Battah narrated in al-Ibanah, with a sound chain, from Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh, who said: Ibn 'Unayn narrated to us, saying:
A man asked Nafi' and said: Did Ibn 'Umar greet the grave? He said: Yes, I have seen him a hundred times or more than a hundred times. He would come to the grave, stand beside it, and say: Peace be upon the Prophet, peace be upon Abu Bakr, peace be upon Abuسأل رجل نافعًا فقال : هل كان ابن عمر يسلم على القبر، فقال : نعم، لقد رأيته مائة أو أكثر من مائة مرة، كان يأتي القبر، فيقوم عنده فيقول : السلام على النبي، السلام على أبي بكر، السلام على أبي
. In another narration, which Imam Ahmad mentioned as evidence:
Then he departsثم ينصرف
, and Malik narrated this report in al-Muwatta "
