The Shaykh : Now, he (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) sent an expedition of horsemen who came back with a man, they then tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:126
The hadith, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim"

He sent out a cavalry.
That is, for fighting and jihad in the path of Allah
And they captured a man and brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
And this man is called Thumamah ibn Uthal, and they brought him. He had gone out to perform 'Umrah, and they caught him on the way, and they brought him. He was one of the nobles of the people of al-Yamamah and had influence among them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) tied him to a pillar, that is, a column of the pillars of the mosque. The benefit of tying him and the purpose of tying him were two things:
The first is that he would observe the prayer of the Muslims.
And the second is that there is a kind of humiliation in it, that a man should be tied to a column of the columns of the mosque. This is a kind of humiliation because he was a nobleman of his people.
And the author's (may Allah have mercy on him) saying: "The hadith" means up to the end of the hadith. It indicates that the hadith is long and that he abbreviated it and only brought the point of reference. The story is that
When they brought him and tied him in the mosque, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him and said to him: What do you have? What do you have? He said to him: If you kill, you kill one who has blood.
, meaning, you kill one who deserves to be killed
If you do me a favour, you will do a favour to a grateful person. If you want wealth, ask and you will get what you will demand.
Sahih Muslim 1764a
, three things in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him a choice. If you kill, what?
The student: One who has blood.

The Shaykh :
You kill one who has blood, meaning one who deserves to be killed, and if you show kindness, you show kindness to a grateful person, and if you want money, ask for what you wish.
...
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left him. He came to him on the second day and passed by him and said: What do you want? He said: What I told you, if you show kindness, you show kindness to a grateful person.
And he did not mention "if you kill, you kill one who has blood" nor "if you want money, ask." He brought only one thing, hinting that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was bestowing a favor on him and releasing him, and that he would show kindness to a grateful person.
So he left him. On the third day, he passed by him and said: What do you have? What do you have? So he repeated it to him. He said: I have what I told you, I have what I told you. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his release. So this favor from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) took its place in this great man. So he went out of the mosque and went and bathed, then he came and entered the mosque and said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
He testified to the oneness of Allah and announced it in the mosque of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) gave him good news.
That is, he gave him good news because he had embraced Islam.
Then he swore that he had not seen a face more hateful to him than the face of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: And your face today is the most beloved of faces to me.
, Allahu Akbar! Look at the faith.
And I do not see a religion more hateful to me than your religion, and your religion today is the most beloved to me of all religions. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased with that and ordered him to go to his 'Umrah. So he went and performed 'Umrah and entered Mecca reciting the talbiyah, not with the talbiyah of the polytheists.
, the talbiyah of the polytheists, they say: Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaik la sharika laka labbaik, except a partner who is yours, you own him and what he owns. He entered with the pure talbiyah of tawhid (the oneness of Allah).
So the Quraysh objected to him and said to him, "You have become an apostate, you have become an apostate." He said, "No."
