The reciter: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Malik narrated to me from Ishaq ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah that Abu Murrah, the freed slave of 'Aqil ibn Abi Talib, informed him from Abu Waqid al-Laythi
The Shaykh : Yes, this is what the author (may Allah have mercy on him) took as a principle: it is recommended for a person to sit where the gathering ends for him, unless there is a seat prepared for him, such as if the man is one of the elders of the group and he finds a place for him in the front of the gathering, then there is no harm in stepping over people until he reaches the front of the gathering. But if that is not the case, he should sit where the gathering ends for him. However, if one of those sitting prefers him to his place, is it permissible for him to accept? The answer is: Yes, it is permissible for him to accept.
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in the mosque with the people when three men came. Two of them came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and one went away. He said: So they stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). As for one of them, he saw a gap in the circle and sat in it. As for the other, he sat behind them. As for the third, he turned his back and left. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he said: "Shall I inform you about the three men? As for one of them, he sought refuge in Allah, so Allah sheltered him. As for the other, he was shy, so Allah was shy of him. As for the third, he turned away, so Allah turned away from him."
