Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “The Creator of the heavens and the earth. He made for you from yourselves mates and from the livestock mates, multiplying you therein. There is nothing like Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

The Shaykh :[Al-An'am 6:14] Creator: This is the predicate of a deleted subject, and the implied meaning is “He is the Creator.” We say this because in the Arabic language, a sentence cannot be constructed except from a subject and a predicate, or a verb and a subject, or what takes the place of the verb. Creator: meaning He is the Creator, and the Creator means the Creator without any precedent, so it means the Originator of the heavens. The heavens and the earth are known; the heavens are these seven heavens about which Allah informed us, explaining that they are seven, firm, and that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, built them with strength. So He, the Exalted, said: [Adh-Dhariyat 51:47] meaning with strength. The intended meaning of “ayd” in this verse is not the hand of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, because Allah did not attribute it to Himself; He did not say “with Our hands,” but He said: And “ayd” is a verbal noun from “aada ya’idu” when it means to become strong, so it is like His saying: [An-Naba 78:12] These seven firm ones, when the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah has said about them that they will be weak: [Al-Haqqah 69:16] meaning weak. As for the earth, it is our known earth. The heavens are plural because they are seven, and the earth is singular, intended to mean the genus. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, clarified in Surat al-Talaq that they are seven, so He said: [At-Talaq 65:12] He said: [At-Talaq 65:12] This is supported by what came in the Sunnah, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1610a.
