Ruling on wearing the right sock before washing the left foot
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The questioner: M. A. A. from Hail says in his question: Some people told me that it is not permissible during wudu to put on the sock on your right foot before you wash your left foot. I read in a book a long time ago about this topic—and I do not remember the name of this book—that there is a difference of opinion, and the stronger of the scholars' opinions is that it is permissible. Please inform me in detail about this topic, may you be rewarded.
A: The preferred and most cautious course is for the one performing wudu not to put on the sock until he has washed his left foot; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan al-Bayhaqi 1:1219 narrated by al-Daraqutni, and al-Hakim, who graded it authentic, from the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him); and based on the hadith of Abu Bakrah al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Bulugh al-Maram 65 narrated by al-Daraqutni, and graded authentic by Ibn Khuzaymah.
And what is in the two Sahihs from the hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing wudu, so he wanted to remove his leather socks, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:Sahih al-Bukhari 206.
The apparent meaning of these three hadiths and what came in their meaning is that it is not permissible for a Muslim to wipe over the leather socks unless he had put them on after completing his purity, and the one who put his right foot into the leather sock or sock before washing his left foot has not completed his purity.
Some scholars held the view that wiping is permissible, even if the one wiping had put his right foot into the leather sock or sock before washing the left; because each one was only put on after it was washed.
The most cautious course is the first, which is the most apparent in the evidence, and whoever does that should remove the leather sock or sock from his right foot before wiping, then put it back in after washing the left, so that he gets out of the disagreement and takes precaution for his religion.
And success is from Allah.

When one of you performs wudu and puts on his leather socks, let him wipe over them, and let him pray in them, and let him not remove them—if he wishes—except from major ritual impurity
إذا توضأ أحدكم فلبس خفيه فليمسح عليهما، وليصل فيهما، ولا يخلعهما -إن شاء- إلا من جنابةThe Prophet (ﷺ) gave permission for the traveller to perform Mash (wiping) over his leather socks for three days and nights and for a non-traveller for a day and night, if he had put them on in a state of purity.

He ordered me to leave them as he had put them after performing ablution
