The view that making up fasts is waived for the pregnant and nursing woman is the weaker opinion

Question: When I was pregnant with my first child, which was nine years ago, I asked one of the brothers who calls to the methodology of the Salaf what I should do, as the month of Ramadan had entered and I was unable to fast due to the circumstances of pregnancy. He answered me that I had no obligation to fast, citing the hadith: He also said that there was no expiation. So I stopped fasting whenever I was pregnant or nursing, for a period of four years, up to the birth of my fourth child. After that, I heard from one of the brothers that those like me are only required to pay the expiation, citing the athar that Ibn 'Abbas saw a nursing slave woman of his and said to her: "You are among those who are able to fast; you must pay the expiation, but you do not have to make up the fasts." So I took an amount of money to feed people on my behalf for the four months of Ramadan that were owed from me. However, O honorable Shaykh, I heard from the program (Nur 'ala al-Darb) from one of the distinguished scholars that those like me are required to make up the fasts, and if the making up is delayed, an expiation is added to it. So what should I do, O honorable Shaykh? Ramadan is at the door, if Allah grants us life. My due dates for delivery are a few days before it, and the fifth month will be a debt upon me. My question is: what is the authenticity of the hadith and athar mentioned by the brothers? And if I were to die before making up the one hundred and fifty days that are owed from me, would I be sinful for that?
I hope for your guidance so that my heart may be at ease. May Allah reward you with good. Then, I set aside the money with the intention of feeding people, and one of the brothers in Allah, a traveler, came by whose money had run out, so I gave it to him as the expiation for breaking the fast. Is this action of mine valid, or should I feed people? Please guide us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: The correct view in this matter is that the pregnant and nursing woman must make up the fasts. What is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas and Ibn 'Umar that the pregnant and nursing woman must feed people is the weaker opinion, contrary to the evidence of the Shari'ah. Allah the Exalted says: [al-Baqarah: 185]. The pregnant and nursing woman are included with the sick person; they are not in the ruling of the old man who is unable to fast. Rather, they are in the ruling of the sick person, so they must make up the fasts if they are able to do so, even if the making up is delayed. If the making up is delayed due to a valid Shari'ah excuse, there is no feeding, only making up the fasts. However, if the pregnant or nursing woman is lax and does not make up the fasts despite having the ability, then if another Ramadan comes and she has not made them up out of laxity and laziness, she must make up the fasts along with feeding people. But if the delay is for the sake of nursing or pregnancy, not out of laziness, then they must only make up the fasts, with no feeding.
What you spent on feeding is in the path of Allah, and you will have its reward. It suffices for the obligatory feeding in the making up of fasts if you were lax in making them up. You must make up the fasts, fasting according to your ability, and it is not obligatory for you to do so consecutively. You fast and break the fast until you complete what is owed from you, if Allah wills. Allah is the Helper of His servant and the One who guides him—(Glorified and Exalted is He)—if the servant is sincere and pure in his intention for Allah and seeks His help, then Allah will help him and make the making up of fasts easy for him. So be glad with good, seek help from Allah, and be sincere. And Allah is the One who grants success and guidance .
The concession of half the prayer for the traveler and the concession of fasting for the pregnant and nursing woman
