Is Hajj and 'Umrah better than giving charity with their costs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: When the blessed month of Ramadan arrives, many people go to Makkah al-Mukarramah with their families and stay there for the entire noble month. I heard from one of the brothers that you, Your Eminence the Shaykh, hold that giving charity with the cost of 'Umrah is better than performing it. Is this correct? And if it is correct, is there any advice for those who go there annually until it has become a field for boasting and showing off among some people?

Answer: What you mentioned is not correct, and that did not come from me. The correct view is that Hajj and 'Umrah are better than giving charity with their costs for one who is sincere to Allah in intention and performs this ritual in the prescribed manner. It is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
An Umra is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the next, and Hajj which is accepted will receive no other reward than Paradise.العمرة إلى العمرة كفارة لما بينهما، والحج المبرور ليس له جزاء إلا الجنة
Sahih Muslim 1349a
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajjعمرة في رمضان تعدل حجة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 939Sahih (Darussalam)
It is also agreed upon that it is authentic. And success is from Allah.
