Question: If a Muslim intends to perform Hajj, and after entering ihram his Hajj becomes impossible, what is required of him?

Answer: If a person is prevented from completing Hajj after entering ihram due to illness or other reasons, it is permissible for him to exit the state of ihram after slaughtering a sacrificial animal, then shaving or shortening his hair; based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
And complete the Hajj and 'umrah for Allah. But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughterوَأَتِمُّواْ الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلّهِ فَإِنْ أُحْصِرْتُمْ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ وَلاَ تَحْلِقُواْ رُؤُوسَكُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْهَدْيُ مَحِلَّهُ
[al-Baqarah:196], and because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was prevented from entering Makkah on the day of Hudaybiyyah, slaughtered his sacrificial animal, shaved his head, and then exited the state of ihram, and he ordered his Companions to do the same. However, if the one who was prevented had said in his ihram: "If I am prevented by a preventer, then my place of exiting ihram is where I am prevented," he exits the state of ihram and nothing is required of him, neither a sacrificial animal nor anything else; based on what is established in the two Sahihs from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Subay'ah, the daughter of al-Zubayr ibn al-'Abd al-Muttalib, said: "O Messenger of Allah, I intend to perform Hajj and I am ill," so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her:
Enter Into the state of Ihram on condition that you would abandon it when Allah would detain you.حجي واشترطي: أن محلي حيث حبستني
