If you find lost property and do not find its owner, it is yours

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I have a sum of money that was lost, and I have announced it, and among those who were in the vicinity of the place where the money was found, no one has asked about it. What should I do with it?

Answer: If you have announced it in the gathering places of the people for a full year, two, three, or four times a month; for a full year, then it is yours. And if you find the owner of the money, you give it to him. It is with you as a trust and a loan. Whenever you find its owner, you give it to him. Otherwise, it is yours like the rest of your wealth, except if it is from the lost property of the Haram. If it is from the lost property of the Haram in Makkah and al-Madinah, then it is not owned, and one does not touch it until its owner is found, or you hand it over to the committee prepared for that in the two Harams, and your conscience is cleared.
