It is not permissible to force a daughter to marry a man she does not desire

Question: What is the ruling on one who forces his daughter to marry a man she does not approve of?

Answer: That is not permissible; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: , so he has no right to force her to marry a person she does not approve of, even if he is pious. Rather, he should advise her and suggest to her what he sees as best for her. It is prescribed for her to obey her father in what is good and known, if the suitor is a righteous man; it is recommended for her to obey him, and to appreciate his affection and tenderness toward her, and his kindness to her. However, she is not obligated to obey him if she does not approve of this suitor, due to the aforementioned hadith. And success is from Allah.
