The ruling on a father forcing his daughter to marry a man she does not want

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener: Abdullah Saleh al-Mutayri from Uqaylat al-Suqur has three questions. In his first question, he asks: What is the ruling on one who forces his daughter to marry a man she does not approve of?

Answer:
That is not permissible; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And a virgin is to be consulted by her father, and her permission is her silenceوالبكر يستأذنها أبوها، وإذنها سكوتها
.
So he has no right to force her to marry a specific person, even if he is pious, even if he is the most pious of people, he has no right to force her. Rather, he should advise her and suggest to her what he sees as best for her. And she must obey her father in what is good and known, if the husband is righteous, she must obey him. And she must appreciate his affection and tenderness toward her, and his kindness to her.
But she is not obligated to obey him if her heart does not accept this husband and does not incline toward him. There is no blame on her if she excuses herself to her father, and it is not permissible for her father to force her.
But whenever she is able to obey her father in a righteous husband who is suitable for her, that is better for her and more excellent for her. Obedience to the father is among the best forms of obedience in the obedience of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
