You are not required to obey your mother in divorcing your wife if she has not harmed you

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: From Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz to the honorable brother, the esteemed President of the Jawf Court, may Allah grant him understanding in all good, amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. After that:
O Beloved, your noble letter dated 3/11/1389 AH reached us, may Allah guide you. You mentioned a man who has two or more wives, and one of them is favored by him because of her good nature, but his mother and brother do not like her and said to him: “We will not be reconciled and we are not pleased with you as long as she is with you,” out of fear that she might incline him away from them. Your question is: Should he obey his mother and brother and divorce her? Or should he keep her in a house by herself if they desire that? Have I understood you correctly?

Answer: He is not required to obey them in divorcing her if she has not harmed them. There is no harm in keeping her in a house other than the one where they reside if that would settle the situation. In summary, he is not sinful for not obeying his mother in this matter if the woman has not harmed them, and there is nothing in her that necessitates separation from her on the basis of her religion.
