What should I do about my father and the brothers around him who are tormenting me and preventing me from marrying the suitor I have chosen for myself as a husband?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.

The questioner: Shaykh Muhammad.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: I am calling from the Noble Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Did you speak to my sister when I called yesterday?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Yes, I am telling you, Shaykh, please, I am seeking refuge in Allah and then in you, meaning I want you to find a solution for my problem.

The Shaykh : Your problem is not one I can solve, and between you and me, after the two eastern points, but you must go to the Shari'ah court in your area.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Take your case to a Shari'ah judge in your area and tell them that your father and the brothers around him are tormenting you and preventing you from marrying the suitor you have chosen for yourself as a husband. In that case, if this Shari'ah judge is truthful, he will judge by what Allah has revealed. He will take the place of your father and marry you off, despite your father's objection, if you can bear the opposition of your father regarding your marriage. But if you cannot bear this opposition and conflict with your father, then you know that you have been afflicted, so you must arm yourself with patience, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is with the patient. This is my answer to what you related to my wife, and I hope you understood me?

The questioner: Yes. Well, Shaykh, the whole of his problem is that he is Sudanese and that he is not from...

The Shaykh : That is not what concerns me; I understood all of that, and therefore I mentioned the way out for you.

The questioner: Well, meaning, if Allah wills, if I, by the permission of Allah, marry this man through the judge, there will be no blame on me.

The Shaykh : Absolutely not. If the judge takes the place of your father because of his injustice and his bias against you and his prevention of you from the marriage that safeguards your religion, you will not be disobedient to your Lord.

The questioner: If Allah wills, if Allah wills. Well, Shaykh, may Allah reward you a thousand times over.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you, if Allah wills.
