Explanation of the author's statement: "... and it is forbidden to use fabric woven or decorated with gold before its transformation, and silk garments ..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And it is forbidden for males to use fabric woven or decorated with gold before its transformation, and silk garments, and whatever is more apparent in this regard for males".
Now, his statement "for males" is connected to his statement "it is forbidden," meaning it is forbidden for a male to use fabric woven with gold or decorated with it. Using fabric woven with gold means that it contains threads of gold woven into it, whether these threads are on the entire garment or on a part of it, such as a collar, the edge of a sleeve, or the like. The important thing is that it is woven with gold in any part of the garment; it is forbidden for a male, for males, due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Gold and silk have been permitted for the females of my Ummah, and forbidden to the males. أحِل الذهب والحرير لإناث أمتي وحُرّم على ذكورها
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5148Sahih (Darussalam)
. And because a man does not need to adorn himself with gold, since he is adorned for others, but he does not adorn himself for anyone, as Allah the Exalted said in describing the female:
So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident [attributed to Allah]? أو من ينشؤ في الحلية وهو في الخصام غير مبين
[Az-Zukhruf 43:18]
meaning she is raised in adornment. It is the woman who needs to adorn herself and wear jewelry, but the man does not. And it is not befitting for a man to break his manliness to the point of descending to the characteristics of women in softness, wearing gold, and the like.
Now, wearing pure gold for a man is even more forbidden. Wearing pure gold is even more forbidden. Therefore, it is forbidden for him to wear a ring of gold, or a necklace, or a chain, or a pendant, or the like. Yes, because this is part of wearing it.
Likewise, fabric woven or decorated with gold. Decorated with gold means coated with gold. It is forbidden for a man due to the generality of the hadith, except that the author made an exception if this gold has transformed and its color has changed, such that if it were exposed to fire, nothing would be obtained from it. Then there is no harm in it, because it is gold in color and meaning. I mean, suppose that over a long period of time, it has eroded and its color has gone, and it is no longer the color of gold, and if it were exposed to fire and melted, nothing would be obtained from it. Then we say this is permissible because the color of gold has gone from it, and what is left? The meaning of the gold has all gone, and nothing remains except that it was once decorated. Therefore, he said "or decorated with gold before its transformation."
It is also forbidden for males to wear silk garments. Silk garments are also forbidden for males. What is meant by silk here is natural silk, not artificial silk. Natural silk comes from a worm called the silkworm. It comes out of it, and it is expensive and soft. If a woman wears it for her husband, it arouses his desire. Therefore, it is forbidden for a man because it resembles gold in some respects, in that it is something used for adornment. Even if it is worn in the form of clothing, there is no doubt that it arouses desire for a woman. Likewise, it is not befitting for a man to wear such a garment for this reason.
As for the hadith, the hadith of 'Ali ibn Abi Talab has already been mentioned, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Gold and silk have been permitted for the females of my Ummah, and forbidden to the males. أحل الذهب والحرير لإناث أمتي وحُرّم على ذكورها
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5148Sahih (Darussalam)
