The Chapter on the Wedding Feast

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Chapter on the Wedding Feast" The walimah (wedding feast) is derived from al-walam, which means gathering. The meaning of the wedding feast is the table to which people gather on account of the wedding. The 'ars (wedding) means the marriage contract. This is because the wedding is a blessing from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and it is prescribed to announce it and make it public. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf:
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheep أولم ولو بشاة
And "hold a feast" is a command. As for his statement:
even if it is only a sheep ولو بشاة
It was said that this is an estimate of the minimum, and it was said that it is an estimate of the maximum. On the view that it is an estimate of the minimum, the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) addressed 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, who was among the wealthy. Therefore, the minimum for a wealthy person to hold a feast is with one sheep. Its explanation will come, if Allah wills.
