The ruling on the wedding feast.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, the wedding feast is a recommended practice (sunnah). The evidence is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to whom? To 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf:
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheep أولم ولو بشاة
So a person should hold a feast to the extent of what Allah has given him.
Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth, and he whose provision is restricted - let him spend from what Allah has given him لينفق ذو سعة من سعته ومن قدر عليه رزقه فلينفق مما آتاه الله
[At-Talaq 65:7]
As for boasting with it and exaggerating in it, the least of its states is that it is disliked (makruh), and it may reach the point of being forbidden (haram). If the man is among the wealthy, the rich, the powerful, and those of high status, for whom it is not fitting except to make the feast grand, then it is disliked in his case. However, if he is among the poor, and making the feast grand requires taking on debts, borrowing, and losing his dignity, then exaggerating in it becomes forbidden. Note that extravagance varies according to people; an action may be extravagance for one person and permissible for another. Nevertheless, we say that the feast should be according to the one for whom it is held, in terms of exaggeration in it or not. But the excessive extravagance, of which we have heard that some people rent an entire hotel for the feast for one hundred thousand or two hundred thousand or more, depending on the luxury of the hotel, there is no doubt that this is forbidden. It is likely that Allah will not leave this man with what he spent, and will bring about a decrease and loss in his wealth. Also, from the perspective of religion, his faith is diminished by this action, because that is a sin, and faith is diminished by sin. Such a person should not be responded to, even the first time, because he has transgressed the limits and been extravagant. In reality, he has wronged himself and wronged others, because people may imitate him and do what he did after him, as many people are weak in soul and want to strengthen their personality by equating themselves with those above them, saying, "I am not incapable of being like so-and-so." But the decisive man does not care; he spends from what Allah has given him and does not strain himself to acquire what he does not have.
