The Shaykh : In this, too, in this hadith, there is a benefit: the clarification of the grace of Allah upon this Ummah, in that He made lawful for them the spoils of war they take from the disbelievers, whereas it was forbidden for those who came before us. This is because these spoils contain much good for the Muslim community, helping them in jihad and supporting them in jihad. They take wealth from the disbelievers and fight the disbelievers with it; they fight the disbelievers with it again. This is from the favor of Allah, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I was given five things that were not given to any prophet before me, and it is mentioned that the spoils of war were made lawful for him and were not made lawful for anyone before him. أعطيت خمسا لم يعطهن أحد من الأنبياء قبلي وذكر أنها أحلت له الغنائم ولم تحل لأحد كان قبله
.
In this hadith, too, there is a sign of Allah: that the hands of those who embezzled stuck to the hands of the Prophet. This is contrary to custom, but Allah is capable of all things. For the custom is that when a hand shakes hands with another hand during a pact, it releases. But the hands of those who embezzled did not release; they held the hand of the Prophet, for this is a sign that the Prophet does not know the unseen.
In this, too, there is evidence that the prophets do not know the unseen. This is clear: the prophets do not know the unseen except what Allah reveals to them. As for them, they do not know the unseen. There are many proofs of this in what happened to our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), where many things were hidden from him:
she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted." قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنْبَأَكَ هَذَا قَالَ نَبَّأَنِيَ الْعَلِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ
[At-Tahrim 66:3]
. As for him, he does not know the unseen. His Companions would be with him and hide things from him:
Abu Hurayrah was with him one day, so he withdrew. Abu Hurayrah was in a state of major ritual impurity, so he withdrew to perform the full ritual bath. When he returned, the Prophet said to him: “Where were you, O Abu Hurayrah?” كان معه ذات يوم أبو هريرة فانخنس وكان عليه جنابة على أبي هريرة ، خنس ليغتسل فقال له حينما رجع : أين كنت يا أبا هريرة ؟
. Thus, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) does not know the unseen, and no one among the creation knows the unseen:
(26) [He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone (27) Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before each messenger and behind him observers
[Al-Jinn 72:26-27]
.
Then, in this hadith, too, there is evidence of the power of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in that it is not known where this fire came from. It descends from the sky; it is not from the trees of the earth nor from the firewood of the earth. It is from the sky, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commands it, so it descends and consumes this gathered spoils. And success is from Allah.
