Continuation of the Explanation of the Hadith in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A prophet from among the prophets went on an expedition, and he said to his people: No man who has taken a woman in marriage and wishes to build a house for her but has not yet built it, nor a man who has built a house but has not yet raised its roof, nor a man who has bought sheep or camels and is waiting for their offspring, should follow me.

The Shaykh : Among its points is: the permissibility of addressing inanimate objects, with the intention of admonition and lesson, and clarifying the ruling, because he said to the sun:
Thou art subserviant (to Allah) and so am I
Sahih Muslim 1747
, but he did not say: Wait, because the sun cannot wait by itself. However, he asked Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to hold back the sun, so it was held back for him until Allah granted him victory.
And in it is a refutation of the statement of those who say that the sun does not revolve around the earth. It is a call to the fact that it does revolve, and the texts are very clear that it, meaning the sun, revolves around the earth. In the Noble Qur'an, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [laying] within an open space thereof
[Al-Kahf 18:17]
And the rest of the discussion on the hadith will come tomorrow, if Allah wills.
The reader: Shall we repeat it?

The Shaykh : Yes, repeat it.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
Imam Muslim said in what he headed:
The chapter on the lawfulness of spoils specifically for this Ummah.
And Abu Kuraib, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala', narrated to us, and Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Ma'mar. And Muhammad ibn Rafi' narrated to us, and the wording is his, and 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, and Ma'mar informed us, from Hammad ibn Munabbih, who said: This is what Abu Hurayrah narrated to us, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He mentioned hadiths, among which was: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One of the Prophets made a holy war. He said to his followers: One who has married a woman and wants to consummate to his marriage but has not yet done so; another who has built a house but has not yet erected its roof; and another who has bought goats and pregnantshe-camels and is waiting for their offspring-will not accommpany me. So he marched on and approached a village at or about the time of the Asr prayers. He said to the sun: Thou art subserviant (to Allah) and so am I. O Allah, stop it for me a little. It was stopped for him until Allah granted him victory. The people gathered the spoils of war (at one place). A fire approached the spoils to devour them, but it did not devour them. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Some of you have been guilty of misappropriation. So one man from each tribe should swear fealty to me. The did so (putting their hands into his). The hand of one man stuck to his hand and the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Your tribe is guilty of misappropriation. Let all the members of your tribe swear fealty to me one by one. They did so, when the hands of two or three persons got stuck with his hand. He said: You have misappropriated. So they took out gold equal in volume to the head of a cow. They-placed it among the spoils on the earth. Then the fire approached the spoils and devoured them. The spoils of war were not made lawful for any people before us, This is because Allah saw our weakness and humility and made them lawful for us.
Sahih Muslim 1747
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
We have previously spoken about some of the phrases in this hadith, and we have reached the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to the sun:
Thou art subserviant (to Allah) and so am I
Sahih Muslim 1747
and his asking his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, to hold it back for a while. So Allah answered his supplication and held it back. And we said that this is evidence that the sun is the one that revolves around the earth, and this is the apparent meaning of the Qur'an. We cited verses as evidence, among which is the statement of the Exalted:
you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left
[Al-Kahf 18:17]
The attribution of the action to it implies that it is the one that rose, and it is the one that set, and it is the one that turned away, and it is the one that cut off. And it is not possible to depart from this apparent meaning with which Allah addressed us, on the basis of the statement of some astronomers that it is stationary and that the difference between night and day is due to the rotation of the earth.
And likewise, Allah, the Exalted, said in the story of Sulayman:
Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]." إني أحببت حب الخير عن ذكر ربي حتى توارت بالحجاب
[Sad 38:32]
meaning the sun.
And likewise, the statement of Dhul-Qarnayn in the story of Dhul-Qarnayn:
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield.
[Al-Kahf 18:90]
, and likewise the statement:
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud
[Al-Kahf 18:86]
.
And likewise, the hadith of Abu Dharr that when the sun set, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
Do you know where it goes? He said: Allah and His Messenger know best
, then he explained that to him.
These texts cannot be left for the statements of people who only innovate and suppose without certainty. Even if we were to assume that the earth rotates, it does not follow from that that the difference between night and day is not due to the sun, because the rotation of the sun is different from the rotation of the earth. The rotation of the sun is opposite, and the rotation of the earth is toward the east.
And it is known that the sun is very far away, so its speed of rotation is not apparent to people. So it is obligatory for every Muslim to rely on the apparent meaning of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and not to pay attention to anyone other than them, except if it is established with certainty like the sun. Then it is possible to interpret it, and we say: if it rose in the opinion of the eye, and if it set in the opinion of the eye, and so on. But as long as we have not found a tangible proof that we must follow, the original rule is to remain with the apparent meaning of the Book and the Sunnah.
And in this hadith is also evidence that the celestial bodies change by the command of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So the rotation of the sun stopped or was halted by the supplication of this prophet. And likewise, the splitting of the moon in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); there is no doubt that a celestial body changed. And the statement of the astronomers that the celestial bodies and astronomical objects do not change is incorrect, because if the One who changed them is Allah, then He is the One who created them in the first place.
And in it is also that fighting during the day is better than fighting at night. For this reason, this prophet asked Allah to hold back the sun so that he could fight.
And in it is also that the previous nations were not permitted spoils. So what are spoils?
They are what is taken from the disbelievers by fighting and what is attached to it. This is the spoils. In the previous nations, spoils were not lawful; rather, they were gathered, and then a fire would descend from the sky and burn them.
In this story, when the fire descended, it refused to burn them because one of the fighters had taken spoils unlawfully. So if the spoils are not completed, and if they are not completed, then the fire does not burn them. But this is the verse that this prophet took as a wonder, where Allah, Mighty and Majestic, inspired him with this path. He asked for a chief from every tribe to come and greet the Prophet. Whoever's hand stuck to the hand of the Prophet, the unlawful taking was among his people. Until the hand of one of the chiefs stuck, and he said: There is among you one who has taken spoils unlawfully. Then he brought the tribe, and the hands of three of them stuck to the hand of the Prophet, and behold, they had taken gold the size of a bull's head. Either the meaning is the size of a bull's head, i.e., in shape, or the meaning is the size of a bull's head in mass, regardless of whether it was shaped or not.
And in the hadith is also evidence of the virtue of this Ummah, where Allah made spoils lawful for them. For this reason, it came in the authentic hadith that:
I made my provision under the shadow of my spear
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 10:131
And there is no doubt that the Muslims take many spoils, very many, until they are brought to the mosque and become a large pile, and much good is obtained for the Ummah through them.
