The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 33 The word "sign" (ayah) means a mark or indicator. The sign of a thing is its ayah, as Allah the Exalted said: [Ash-Shu'ara 26:197] This means: Or did they not have a sign to know the truth of what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought, the validity of his Shari'ah, and that this Qur'an is the truth? And they know that it is the one about which Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them) gave glad tidings. Similarly, Allah the Exalted said: [Ya-Sin 36:41] "Ayah" means a sign. So the sign of the hypocrite is three. The hypocrite is the one who conceals evil and displays good. This includes concealing disbelief while displaying Islam. The term is derived from the burrow of the gerbil. The burrow of the gerbil, which we call the jerboa, is such that it is clever and digs a hole in the ground, opening a door for it. Then it digs a small opening at the far end of the hole for exit, but it is a hidden opening that is not known. So if someone blocks its hole from the door, it pushes through this opening at the bottom of the hole with its head and exits from there. Thus, the hypocrite displays good and conceals evil; he displays Islam and conceals disbelief. Hypocrisy became prominent in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the Battle of Badr, when the leaders of Quraysh were killed at Badr and the Muslims gained the upper hand. Hypocrisy appeared, and these hypocrites displayed that they were Muslims while they were disbelievers. [Al-Baqarah 2:14] Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:15] [Al-Munafiqun 63:1] They say: "We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah." They emphasize this statement with the oath of testimony, with "inna" (indeed), and with the emphatic "lam." So Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Munafiqun 63:1].
