Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in this chapter: “The chapter on being gentle with orphans, the weak, the poor, and the like”, the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
The one who looks after a widow and a poor person is like the one who fights in the cause of Allah, and I think he said: like the one who fasts and does not break his fast, and the one who stands in prayer and does not cease الساعي على الأرملة والمسكين كالمجاهد في سبيل الله ، وأحسبه قال : كالصائم الذي لا يفطر والقائم الذي لا يفتر
Sahih Ibn Hibban 17:33
, and the one who looks after them is the one who attends to their interests, their expenses, and what is required of them.
And a widow is one who has no provider, whether male or female, and the poor are the needy.
And from this is a person’s care for his family and his provision for them, for the family members who do not earn, for the one who looks after them and provides for their expenses is one who looks after a widow and the poor, and thus he is deserving of this promise, that he will be like the one who fights in the cause of Allah, or like the one who stands in prayer and does not cease, and like the one who fasts and does not break his fast.
And in this is evidence of the ignorance of those people who go hither and thither, and leave their families in their homes with the women, and they have no provider, so they are neglected, they need spending, they need care and the like, and you find them going out wandering in the villages and perhaps in the cities as well, without there being a necessity, but something in their hearts, they think that this is better than staying with their families to discipline and raise them, and this is a wrong assumption, for their staying with their families, and directing their children, male and female, and their wives and those who depend on them, is better than their going out claiming that they are guiding people, while they are leaving their families who are more deserving of their advice and guidance than anyone else, for this reason Allah the Exalted said:
And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:214]
: so He began with his nearest relatives before anyone else.
As for the one who goes out to call to Allah for a day or two or the like, and he returns to his family nearby, this does not harm him, he is upon good, but our discussion is about people who go out for four months, five months, a year, leaving their families to the whims and winds that blow over them, so these people, without doubt, are among those who are deficient in their understanding of the religion of Allah the Mighty and Majestic.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion مَن يرد الله به خيراً يفقهه في الدين
Sahih Muslim 1037a
So the one who has understanding in the religion is the one who knows the matters, and calculates for them, and knows how houses are entered from their doors, until he fulfills what is obligatory upon him, and Allah is the One who grants success.
The reader: “And in a narration in the two Sahihs from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from his words:
Evil is the food of the wedding feast, to which the rich are invited and the poor are left out بئس الطعام طعام الوليمة يدعى إليها الأغنياء ويترك الفقراء
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:1836
”
