The Ruling on Image-Making and Teaching People Through Images

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Photographic image-making?

Answer:
It appears that it falls under this prohibition because it is fixed on paper.
...........
It appears that it is fixed on paper. If the image-making is fixed, even if what is fixed is taken without being fixed, or placed without being fixed, that is what is harmful. However, if it is fixed on paper, on a rag, or on something else, it is not permissible.
Q: It is fixed on a black tape, but when it appears on the television, there is sound in it?
The Shaykh: It appears that the reports cover it. It is called image-making because an image appears among people. Its maker is called an image-maker because the image appears among people: men, women, dogs, donkeys, trees, and stones. Because the intended thing is the image—a visible image—and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed every image-maker. And this appears, so the image is complete before the people.
Q: But in the context of teaching religion?
The Shaykh: Teach as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught the community. The Messenger taught the community without image-making, and the Companions taught the community without image-making. What sufficed the first ones will suffice the later ones.
