Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: His Eminence the Grand Mufti / Ibn Baz (may Allah preserve him).
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
A man was involved in a traffic accident with his wife, and his wife was eight months pregnant. The man died, and the woman remained alive. After she was transported to the hospital, the doctors decided to perform an operation to extract the fetus. It was extracted, and it was a dead female child. Does this woman have to observe the waiting period of mourning? May Allah guide you.

Answer: And upon you be peace, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, after that:
Based on what you have mentioned, the waiting period and mourning period of the woman mentioned end with the delivery of the fetus; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birthوَأُوْلَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ
[Al-Talaq: 4].
May Allah guide everyone. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
