Ruling on the apostate making up the prayers and fasts he missed after his return

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter received from our brother Khalid Nasser Abu Bakr, from the Democratic Republic of Yemen. He says, first: Does an apostate have to make up the prayers or fasts if he returns to Islam and repents to Allah?
Answer: He does not have to make up what he missed. Whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. If a person abandons prayer or commits one of the nullifiers of Islam, and then Allah guides him and he repents, he does not have to make up what he missed. This is the correct opinion among the scholars.
Islam wipes out what came before it, and repentance demolishes what came before itالإسلام يجب ما قبله، والتوبة تهدم ما كان قبلها
, Allah the Exalted said:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for themقُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Al-Anfal: 38]. Thus, the Exalted made it clear that if a disbeliever becomes a Muslim, Allah forgives him what has passed. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Repentance wipes out what came before it, and Islam demolishes what came before itالتوبة تجب ما قبلها والإسلام يهدم ما كان قبله
. So praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
