It is necessary for us to know the difference between equivalence in reward and equivalence in sufficiency; it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an in reward.

The Shaykh : It is necessary for us to know the difference between equivalence in reward and equivalence in sufficiency. It is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an in reward, but it is not equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an in sufficiency. For this reason, if a person repeats it three times in his prayer, it does not suffice for him in place of al-Fatihah. And success is from Allah.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

"Do you not know that last night certain Ayat were revealed the like of which there is no precedence. They are: 'Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Rubb of the daybreak' (Surah 113), and 'Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Rubb of mankind' (Surah 114)."

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned, in the chapter on encouraging specific surahs and verses of the Qur'an: what preceded regarding Surat al-Fatihah and Surat al-Ikhlas, and discussion of them has already taken place. Among them are the two Mu'awwidhat: for the two Mu'awwidhat, which are:
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak قل أعوذ برب الفلق
[Al-Falaq 113:1]
and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, قل أعوذ برب الناس
[An-Nas 114:1]
, no one who seeks refuge with them in faith and sincerity will be protected by Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
As for Surat al-Falaq, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
(1) Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak (2) From the evil of that which He created قل أعوذ برب الفلق * من شر ما خلق
[Al-Falaq 113:1-2]
: meaning, say, O human being, seeking help from your Lord
(1) Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak (2) From the evil of that which He created أعوذ برب الفلق * من شر ما خلق
[Al-Falaq 113:1-2]
al-Falaq: the splitting of the dawn, and the splitting of the seed and the pit. Allah the Exalted said:
The Splitter of the Dawn
And He said:
Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds
[Al-An'am 6:95]
: so He (Mighty and Majestic) is the Lord of the splitting; no one can split any of these things that Allah mentioned except Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
From the evil of that which He created
[Al-Falaq 113:2]
As it came in the authentic hadith:
We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds
Sunan Ibn Majah 1893Sahih (Darussalam)
, and the soul is inclined to evil, so seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what He created, meaning: from the evil of everything He created, of humans, jinn, the soul, and others.
And from the evil of darkness when it settles
[Al-Falaq 113:3]
: al-Ghasiq is the night, because the night is when insects multiply and wild beasts come out, and evils occur, so seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the dark night when it sets in, meaning: when it enters.
And from the evil of the blowers in knots
[Al-Falaq 113:4]
means: the sorceresses who blow into knots to bewitch people. He specified women, even though sorcery occurs in both women and men, because it is predominant in them. It is also possible that the intended meaning is the blowers, meaning the souls that blow, which includes both men and women.
And from the evil of an envier when he envies." ومن شر حاسد إذا حسد
[Al-Falaq 113:5]
: this is the evil eye. The owner of the evil eye, and may Allah protect us, is the malicious one who does not love good for others. You find that when Allah bestows upon someone something of wealth, status, knowledge, a child, a wife, or otherwise, it comes out of his foul soul as the arrow comes out, and it strikes the man. This arrow is unknown and hidden, but his soul trembles, and may Allah protect us, because it is foul and does not love good for others. So the person is struck by the evil eye. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Had the decree preceded something, or had the predestination preceded it, the evil eye would have preceded it.
. So the evil eye is real and it is a truth, until some scholars said that it is what is intended by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message
[Al-Qalam 68:51]
.
And from the evil of an envier
[Al-Falaq 113:5]
Then He said:
If he envies.
: because the envious one may not envy, and the one with the evil eye may strike every person, but if he envies, and may Allah protect us, his evil extends to others, meaning: it extends to others.
It is also possible that the intended meaning of the verse is the envious one with the evil eye and the envious one without the evil eye, because some people are envious, and may Allah protect us, and do not love good for others. Envy is hating what Allah has bestowed upon someone else, hating what Allah has bestowed upon someone else, even if you do not wish for it to be removed. If you wish for it to be removed, it becomes more severe, and may Allah protect us.
And the envious ones, may Allah grant us safety, do not burn except themselves. The envious person burns every time Allah bestows a blessing upon His servants; his heart burns: why does so-and-so get this, and why does so-and-so become that?
So this envious person, and may Allah protect us, sometimes when he envies, he transgresses. When this envy becomes this coal in his heart, and may Allah protect us, he transgresses against others and aggresses against them. For example, suppose a person whom Allah has blessed with wealth, whom Allah has blessed with wealth and he spends it in the path of Allah. There is an envious man, and may Allah protect us, whose heart is burning: that Allah has blessed this man with wealth and made him spend it in the path of Allah. You find him, for example, speaking in gatherings; whenever this man is praised, he says: No, this man is showing off, this man is showing off, his intention is not the face of Allah and the Hereafter.
If Allah blesses a person with knowledge and he becomes accepted by people, he envies, and may Allah protect us. He loves to hide what Allah has bestowed upon the person, and so on.
And envy, and may Allah protect us, is among the major sins. Allah has criticized the Jews for it, saying:
Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them of His bounty?
[An-Nisa 4:54]
: so the favor is from Allah, He gives it to whom He wills. Do you envy people when Allah gives them from His favor?
If you do that, you have wronged the one to whom Allah gave the favor, and you have transgressed against the right of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as if you are saying: Why do you give this man this blessing? So you envy.
This is Surat al-Falaq, and the discussion of Surat al-Nas will come, if Allah wills. The important thing is that a person should seek refuge with these two surahs.
And al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned: أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يتعوذ من الجان ومن عين الإنسان ، حتى نزلت قل أعوذ برب الفلق و قل أعوذ برب الناس فصار يتعوذ بهما وترك ما سواهما That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allah from the jinn and from the evil eye of a human being, until “Say, I seek refuge with the Lord of the dawn” and “Say, I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind” were revealed, so he began to seek refuge with them and left what was other than them., and success is from Allah.
