Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "Chapter on the emphasis of the two rak'ahs of the Fajr sunnah:
From Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
The Prophet (ﷺ) never omitted four Rak'ah prayer before the Zuhr prayer and two Rak'ah prayers before dawn (Fajr) prayer.
Riyad as-Salihin 1100
Al-Bukhari narrated it.
And from her (may Allah be pleased with her), she said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) was more particular about offering the two (optional) Rak'at at dawn than he was about offering any of the other optional prayers.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:258
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from her, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
The two Rak'ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 416Sahih (Darussalam)
Muslim narrated it.
And in a narration for them:
They are dearer to me than the whole world.
Sahih Muslim 725b
.
And from Abu 'Abdullah, Bilal ibn Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him), the mu'adhdhin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
That he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to call him to the Fajr prayer, but Aisha occupied Bilal with a matter he asked her about until it became very late. So Bilal stood up and called him to prayer, and he continued his call, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come out. When he came out, he led the people in prayer, and Bilal informed him that Aisha had occupied him with a matter he asked her about until it became very late, and that he had delayed in coming out. So he said -meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)-: I had already prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr. He said: O Messenger of Allah, you have become very late! He said: If I had become even later than I did, I would have prayed them, perfected them, and made them beautiful
Abu Dawud narrated it with a good chain"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author al-Nawawi -may Allah have mercy on him- said in the book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the emphasis of the two rak'ahs of Fajr":
Meaning the Fajr sunnah. The Fajr sunnah, which is two rak'ahs before the prayer, is distinguished by several things:
First: It is recommended to shorten them. If a person lengthens them, he would be contradicting the Sunnah. Rather, they are shortened to the extent that Aisha used to say:
He shortens them to the extent that I say: Do I recite the Umm al-Qur'an?
, due to the extreme shortening.
And among them: It is recommended to recite a specific recitation in them, either:
Say: O you disbelievers!
in the first rak'ah and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
in the second, or:
Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا
[Al-Baqarah 2:136]
the verse in Surat al-Baqarah, and
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you قل يا أهل الكتاب تعالوا إلى كلمة سواء بيننا وبينكم
[Ali 'Imran 3:64]
the verse in Surat Ali 'Imran, meaning sometimes this and sometimes that.
And among them: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not more attentive to any of the voluntary prayers, meaning the rawatib of the prayers, than he was to the two rak'ahs of Fajr. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was attentive to them.
And among them: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed that they are better than the world and what is in it, and dearer to him than the world and what is in it.
And among them: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave them whether resident or traveling. All of these distinguish the Fajr sunnah. A person should strive to maintain them and be diligent in them whether resident or traveling. If he misses them before the prayer, let him pray them after the prayer, either at the same time, or after the sun has risen the length of a spear.
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned:
The Prophet (ﷺ) never omitted four Rak'ah supererogatory prayer before Zuhr prayers
Riyad as-Salihin 1114
: But they are with two taslims, because the rawatib of Zuhr is six rak'ahs: four before it and two after it. We should strive to be diligent in what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was diligent in, and follow his Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him) as much as we can, for Allah says:
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.
[Al-Ahzab 33:21]
, and success is from Allah.
