Explanation of Riyad al-Salihin-72b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who dies without having fought in the Cause of Allah or without having thought of doing so, will die with one characteristic of hypocrisy in him."
Riyad as-Salihin 1341
Muslim narrated it, and it was narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition, and he said: Indeed, there are men in Madinah who, whenever you travel a distance or cross a valley, they are with you; illness has prevented them
In another narration:
An excuse prevented them حبسهم العذر
In another narration:
they shared with you in the reward
Sunan Ibn Majah 2765Sahih (Darussalam)
Al-Bukhari narrated it from the narration of Anas, and Muslim narrated it from the narration of Jabir, and the wording is his, and it was narrated from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him)
A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, a man fights for the spoils, a man fights to be remembered, and a man fights to be seen in his position, and in another narration he fights out of bravery and out of tribal pride, and in another narration and he fights out of anger, so who is in the cause of Allah? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever fights so that the word of Allah is the highest, he is in the cause of Allah
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These hadiths are in the explanation of matters regarding jihad in the cause of Allah, among which is archery. It has previously been mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Beware, strength consists in archery.
Sahih Muslim 1917
He repeated it three times. In the hadiths that the author cited in this chapter, there is an encouragement to learn archery, and that whoever abandons archery after Allah has granted it to him, then it is a blessing he has disbelieved in. In some of the hadiths, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) disavowed him, and in some of the hadiths as well
Lands shall be thrown open to you and Allah will suffice you (against your enemies), but none of you should give up playing with his arrows.
Sahih Muslim 1918a
So in these hadiths and their like, there is an encouragement to learn archery, and a person should learn how to shoot, even with light weapons, because he does not know what may befall him. Even the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) permitted a prize in archery competitions, meaning two people shoot at each other with a rifle or similar weapon, and they set a prize between them, which the winner takes. This is also permissible and allowed because of the encouragement to learn archery. In these hadiths, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
So shoot and ride, and if you shoot that is dearer to me than if you ride.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3578Hasan (Darussalam)
Because archery can be mastered by a rider and a pedestrian, whereas riding can only be mastered by one who rides. For this reason, archery was more beloved to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) than riding. In these hadiths as well, there is evidence of the virtue of fasting in jihad in the cause of Allah, and that if a person fasts a day in the cause of Allah, Allah will distance his face from the Fire by seventy autumns, meaning seventy years. In these hadiths as well, there is evidence of the obligation of sincerity of intention for Allah, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a man who fights out of bravery, fights out of tribal pride, fights to be seen, and fights out of anger, meaning tribalism for his people, so who is in the cause of Allah? He said:
Whoever fought so that the Word of Allah is supreme, then he is in Allah's cause.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1646Sahih (Darussalam)
And success is from Allah.
