And prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The chapter on the prohibition of describing a woman's beauty to a man, except when there is a need for it for a legitimate religious purpose, such as marrying her or the like:
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No woman should touch another woman's body and then describe the details of her figure to her husband in such a manner as if he was looking at her. لا تباشر المرأةُ المرأةَ فتصفها لزوجها كأنه ينظر إليها
Riyad as-Salihin 1742
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The chapter on the prohibition of describing a woman's beauty to a man, except for a legitimate religious purpose, such as marrying her": This means that it is not permissible for a person to describe a woman to a man, saying: her appearance is such and such, like her height, beauty, whiteness, and the like, except if there is a legitimate religious reason, such as if this man wants to marry her, and her brother, for example, describes her to him so that he may proceed or refrain, because there is nothing wrong with that.
Similarly, it is permissible for a suitor, when he proposes to a woman, to look at her so that this may be more conducive to his acceptance or rejection. For this reason:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited a woman from describing a woman to her husband as if he were looking at her نهى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم المرأة أن تصف المرأة لزوجها حتى كأنه ينظر إليها
, and this, as it is forbidden, is also a harm to the wife from her side, because if a woman is described to her husband, he may desire her and marry her, and problems may arise between them, as is the custom.
This does not mean that a person should abandon plural marriage out of fear of that. No, because plural marriage is prescribed if a person is capable of it in his body, his wealth, and his justice. Then it is prescribed for him to have many wives so that the offspring may increase and the Muslim community may increase. But if he fears that he will not be just, Allah the Exalted said:
But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice]. فإن خفتم ألا تعدلوا فواحدة أو ما ملكت أيمانكم ذلك أدنى ألا تعولوا
[An-Nisa 4:3]
.
The conclusion is that it is not permissible for a person to describe a woman to a man who is a stranger to her, except if there is a legitimate religious reason.
And among that is what some foolish people do, where they boast to their companions and colleagues, saying: my wife is beautiful, meaning he boasts of his wife's beauty. My wife is beautiful, and her face is such and such, and her eye is such and such, and her mouth is such and such, and the like. This is among the forbidden things, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited it. And success is from Allah.
