The ruling on tapping wood out of fear of the envious person's evil eye

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother who indicated his name as Abu 'Umar, from Damascus, says in his message: When a blessing that Allah has bestowed upon a brother or friend is mentioned, some people tap on wood to express their fear of the envious person's evil eye, and some may ask the other to tap on wood by saying, "Tap the wood." What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding this act? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you, if Allah wills.

A: This act is reprehensible and a defective belief, and it is not permissible to do it. Rather, what is prescribed when a blessing is attained or when one is saved from its opposite is to thank Allah, praise Him, and ask Him, Exalted is He, to complete the blessing and to help in thanking Him, as He said in His great Book: (peace and blessings be upon him)
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' "وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ
[Ibrahim: 7] And He, Exalted is He, said:
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلا تَكْفُرُونِ
[al-Baqarah: 152] May Allah guide them all.
