Eating and Drinking in Vessels Coated with Gold
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: If the vessel is coated with gold and not made of pure gold, is it forbidden to use it? And does the hadith prohibiting eating and drinking in gold and silver vessels apply to it?
A: The scholars have stated that this prohibition applies to it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 47:36 It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: Its authenticity is agreed upon, and the wording is from Muslim in the Sahih. Al-Daraqutni also narrated it, and he authenticated its chain from the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), traced to the Prophet: Mishkat al-Masabih 4285 So his statement (peace and blessings be upon him): Mishkat al-Masabih 4285 is a prohibition that encompasses what is made of gold or silver, and what is coated with either of them. This is because the coated item contains the adornment and beauty of gold, so it is prohibited and not permissible by the explicit text of the hadith. The same applies to small vessels, such as tea cups, coffee cups, and spoons; they must not be made of gold or silver. Rather, one must stay away from that and be cautious of it.
And when Allah the Exalted expands the means of His servants, it is obligatory to adhere to the Shari'ah of Allah the Exalted and not to deviate from it. If one has surplus wealth, let him spend it on the needy servants of Allah and in projects of good, and let him not be extravagant or wasteful.

Do not drink in vessels of gold and silver, and do not eat in their platters; for they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.
لا تشربوا في آنية الذهب والفضة ولا تأكلوا في صحافهما؛ فإنها لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرةThe one who eats or drinks in a vessel of gold or silver is merely dragging fire of Hell in his belly.
الذي يأكل أو يشرب في إناء الذهب والفضة إنما يجرجر في بطنه نار جهنمIf anyone drinks from a vessel of gold or silver, or one containing something of that nature, the fire of jahannam will bubble in his belly.
من شرب في إناء ذهب أو فضة أو في إناء فيه شيء من ذلك فإنما يجرجر في بطنه نار جهنمIf anyone drinks from a vessel of gold or silver
