The ruling on praying for deceased parents

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The sister who used the name (Umm Muhammad) from Riyadh says in her question: Is there a prayer for deceased parents, and what is its method? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

A: There is no prayer for the children for their parents after death, nor for anyone else. Rather, it is prescribed to make du'a for them, seek forgiveness for them, and give charity on their behalf, and likewise Hajj and 'Umrah on their behalf. As for prayer, it is not prescribed for anyone to pray on behalf of another person or for another person. Rather, the Muslim deceased is prayed over before burial. And whoever did not pray over him before burial, it is prescribed for him to pray over him after burial if the period does not exceed one month; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed over the grave of the mother of Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, and a month had passed for her.
And likewise the Sunnah of tawaf, which is: two rak'ahs after tawaf, prescribed for whoever performs tawaf. From this, the pilgrim or the one performing 'Umrah on behalf of another, it is prescribed for him, if he performs tawaf on behalf of the one for whom he is doing it, to pray two rak'ahs following the tawaf. The basis for all of this is that acts of worship are based on textual evidence, and nothing is prescribed in them except what is established in the Book or the Sunnah. And Allah is the guarantor of success.
