Explaining the Manner of Prostration of Gratitude

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q237: The questioner asks: What is the manner of the prostration of gratitude, and when is it prescribed?
A237: The prostration of gratitude is prescribed when a blessing is renewed or a calamity is averted, and relief is obtained from distress; such as victory over an enemy, the birth of a child, or other blessings. In that case, it is prescribed or recommended for him to perform the prostration of gratitude as thanks to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Its manner is to say the takbir, prostrate, and say: "Subhan Rabbi al-A'la" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High), repeating this three or ten times. He then makes du'a with whatever supplications are easy for him, then raises his head and says the takbir, and then says the taslim. This is the manner of the prostration of gratitude.
