Ruling on More Than One Woman Riding with a Non-Mahram Driver

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
(Umm Abdullah F. S. Al-Sabaei) sent a message saying: What is the distance prescribed by the Shari'ah for riding with a driver? I am an employee working at a school that is at most about fifteen minutes from my residence. I am accompanied by a group of female teachers from the same neighborhood where I live and who work at the same school. Is there any blame on us for doing this? Also, the driver's wife is present, and the maid is also in the house, but it is difficult for her to go with us because I have children at home, and her presence—as your eminence knows—is obligatory. Please guide us in this matter. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
There is no blame in going to school with the driver if there is no seclusion with a non-mahram. If you are a group, praise be to Allah. Traveling is forbidden; a woman does not travel except with a mahram. Traveling is prohibited except with a mahram. However, within the city, to school, or to visit some loved ones or relatives, there is nothing wrong with it. But she should not be alone with the driver; rather, there should be a third person with them, such as his wife, or a female companion with her. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
A man should not be alone with a woman, for the Shaytan is the third among them.لا يخلون رجل بامرأة؛ فإن الشيطان ثالثهما
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 2:94
Therefore, seclusion is not permissible.
So if there is a third person with the driver: his wife, or his mother, or another woman with you; then there is no blame in going out from the house to school for a distance of a quarter of an hour, or a third of an hour, or less, or more. This is not called travel. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
