The Ruling on Hanging Amulets and Talismans from the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks and says: Is it permissible to wear a paper amulet? It is a sheet from an ordinary notebook, and the person who is called upon writes on it the Verse of the Throne, Surat al-Fatihah, and the two chapters of protection. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Hanging amulets is not permissible, whether in the form of papers, rags, or anything else. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do that, and he did not guide to this—(peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, he guided to recitation: reciting the Qur'an and treating with the Qur'an by blowing on..., such that every person blows on himself.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was ill, would blow into his hands and recite "Say, He is Allah, the One" and the two chapters of protection three times, then wipe with them over the front of his body: his head, face, and chest. As for writing them on papers to be hung up, this is not permissible; rather, this is one of the means of associating partners with Allah and relying on other than Allah . For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever hangs an amulet, Allah will not complete [his affair], and whoever hangs a bead, Allah will not grant him [what he seeks], and whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk.من تعلق تميمة فلا أتم الله له، ومن تعلق ودعة فلا ودع الله له، ومن تعلق تميمة فقد أشرك
.
These are called amulets, or talismans, or veils, and some people call them "gatherers." All of this is not permissible. Hanging is not permissible, whether from the Qur'an or other than the Qur'an. If it is other than the Qur'an, it is more severe in condemnation, such as talismans, bones, iron, or the like. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a brass ring on a man and said:
What is this?ما هذا؟
He said: It is for the weak spot. He said:
Take it off, for it will only increase you in weakness.انزعها فإنها لا تزيدك إلا وهنًا
Sunan Ibn Majah 3531Da’if (Darussalam)
.
The point is that the believer avoids these things. He does not hang iron, paper, a rag, or anything else that he thinks is a talisman that benefits him from the jinn or benefits him from the evil eye, or the like. They call them talismans, they call them amulets, they call them veils. All of this is not permissible. The correct view is that they are not permissible, even if they are from the Qur'an. The correct view is to prohibit them to block the means to harm and to act in accordance with the general hadiths prohibiting amulets and hangings. This is followed by minor shirk. If the owner believes that it wards off evil by itself, it becomes major shirk. I seek refuge in Allah. Yes.
