The Ruling on Hanging Amulets and Talismans

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener Muhammad 'Abd Allah 'Abd al-Rahman al-Thaniyan from al-Zulfi says in his message: Some people hang a wolf's leg around the necks of their children or their dependents, believing that it cures madness. What is your response to this, may Allah guide you?
Answer: This is one of the superstitions; hanging a wolf's leg, or its ear, or its tooth, or some of its hair, on a sick person or a healthy person for protection and safety, all of this is reprehensible. It is all superstition with no basis. This is among the amulets that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called it shirk (associating partners with Allah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever hangs an amulet, Allah will not complete [his good], and whoever hangs something has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah).من تعلق تميمة فلا أتم الله له، ومن تعلق شيء فقد أشرك
Therefore, hanging amulets is not permissible, whether the amulets are made from a wolf's leg, or its hair, or its bones, or from other animals, or from iron, or something written on a paper that is placed in a paper or a piece of cloth or otherwise and hung on a child, or a woman, or a sick person. All of this is not permissible, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade this and warned against it, and he informed that it is shirk (associating partners with Allah) and said:
Whoever hangs up an amulet, Allah will not complete [his affair] for himمن تعلق تميمة فلا أتم الله له
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:557
.
In the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, people used to hang amulets which they called: al-huruz, they called them: al-hujub, they called them: al-jawa'iq, hanging them on the sick and on children; in their claim that they ward off the evil eye from them or ward off jinn. This is not permissible, rather it is reprehensible and must be removed. So it is not permissible to hang an amulet made from wolf bones, or wolf hair, or a wolf's leg, or from a hyena, or a lion, or a tiger, or otherwise. It is also not permissible to hang amulets from the Qur'an, where a paper is written with something and hung in a piece of leather or otherwise, or nails, or otherwise what some people do, or talismans; broken letters which they place in scraps and then put in leather or otherwise to be hung. All of this is not permissible, rather one must beware of that. Yes.
