Ruling on breaking off an engagement due to the bride's father delaying the wedding date

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
:
He says: I have a friend who was engaged to a woman for two years. He was working abroad, and when he returned from abroad, he told the bride's father: "If Allah wills, we will sign the marriage contract." The bride's father refused and said: "We will prepare the jewelry—meaning ornaments—and then we will sign the contract after a year." This friend refused and broke off the engagement. The question is: Does my friend, O Shaykh, bear any sin? And did he wrong that woman? Please inform us about this matter. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is no blame in leaving the engagement, as long as her father did not take the initiative to marry her off. Therefore, there is no blame on the suitor for leaving the engagement. If he wishes to be patient, there is nothing wrong with that. The point is that he is not obligated to be patient if they hasten the marriage for him; so praise be to Allah. Otherwise, he may leave this girl and seek another, because the period is long. Even if the period were short, as long as he has not married, he is free. If he wishes, he can continue the engagement and marry, or if he wishes, he can leave it, even if it is only a day or two before the wedding. There is no blame on him.
The point is: that the engagement does not bind him. Whenever he wishes to turn away from the woman, he may do so. And she is the same; if she wishes to lose interest in him, there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the contract has not been completed. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
