Intercourse during the engagement period

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 6931 )
Q3: A man married a woman, and while he was in the engagement stage, she became pregnant, knowing that she was his fiancée, so what is the ruling of the religion in this matter?
A3: If the intercourse with her occurred before the marriage contract, then it is forbidden by the Book, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Muslim community, and the one who commits it is committing a major sin that requires him to make sincere repentance toward her, and the child resulting from this intercourse is a child of zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), who is attributed to his mother and not to his father. And if it occurred after the contract, then the child resulting from intercourse after the contract and before the announcement of consummation is a legitimate child, and is attributed to both his parents by consensus. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
