The Ruling on Reciting the Qur'an for the Dead

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to recite the Noble Qur'an and dedicate its reward to the deceased, or is it not?

Answer:
There is no evidence for this, and I am not aware of anything indicating that the Qur'an is dedicated to the dead, or to anyone other than the dead. However, one should recite for oneself and ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy for the deceased. As for dedicating rewards, that is done through wealth, such as charity with money, or through Hajj or 'Umrah. This is where dedication takes place: one gives charity on their behalf, or fasts on their behalf if they had a fast to make up, such as if they died owing a fast and someone fasted for them; there is nothing wrong with that. As for reciting the Qur'an and dedicating it to them, there is no evidence for this as far as I know. It should be left, yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
