A Muslim young man wants to marry a girl, but he does not know whether she prays or not. Is this marriage permissible, and what is its ruling? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: He must be certain about the matter; he should ask those who are knowledgeable about her. Marrying a disbeliever is not permissible, and Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Mumtahanah: 10]. And whoever abandons prayer is a disbeliever according to the correct opinion of the scholars, even if he affirms its obligation. If he abandons it out of negligence and laziness, he is a disbeliever, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam).

بين الرجل وبين الكفر والشرك ترك الصلاةThe covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
