The Advice to Guard Against Lamentation
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it not necessary for Your Eminence, the Shaykh, to give advice to the people?
Answer: The advice is to fear Allah and to be cautious, to be cautious of sins; for lamentation is a sin, and if it is accompanied by slapping the cheeks, tearing the clothes, or pulling out hair, the crime becomes more severe. It is not permissible. The Muslim man must be patient, and the Muslim woman likewise. Misfortune is inevitable; every person will die, so a person must have endurance. He should praise Allah. Allah says: [al-Baqarah:155] [al-Baqarah:156] He, the Exalted, said: [al-Baqarah:157].
Therefore, patience is necessary. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:Sahih Muslim 2664 So the believer endures and is patient; he does not despair, does not lament, does not raise his voice with wailing, does not tear a garment, does not slap his cheek, and does not pull out his hair. Rather, he guards against all of that, endures, repents to Allah, and is patient. He says: "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we return. It is the decree of Allah, and what He willed has happened. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better." This is what the believer is commanded to do. In the authentic hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Sahih Muslim 918b Endurance and patience are necessary. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence, the Shaykh! We are all heading toward death. What should we advise our loved ones to do when we die so that they do not lament over us?
The Shaykh: Yes. A man advises his family, and likewise a woman advises her family, to not lament. We advise them just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned them. He said: A man advises his family, and a woman advises her family; she advises her husband, and the husband advises his wife; he advises his family. Allah says: [al-Asr:3] .. [al-Asr:1-3] Mutual advice is necessary; for the Muslim is the brother of the Muslim. The husband loves good for his wife, and the wife likewise. The father loves good for his child, and the child likewise loves good for his father and mother. So mutual advice is necessary; for lamentation harms the deceased and harms them. They sin, and the deceased is harmed by it. So mutual advice to abandon that which harms everyone is a required matter. And Allah, the Exalted, says: [al-Ma'idah:2] We ask Allah for success and guidance for the Muslims.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.

and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don't say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your" if" opens the (gate) for the Satan.
وإن أصابك شيء فلا تقل: لو أني فعلت لكان كذا وكذا، ولكن قل: قدر الله وما شاء فعل، فإن لو تفتح عمل الشيطانIf any servant (of Allah) who suffers a calamity says:" We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return; O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it," ' Allah will give him reward for affliction, and would give him something better than it in exchange.
