Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter came from Mosul in Iraq, sent by one of the brothers from there. He says: I am a Muslim (N. S. H.) and I say: I am a young man of twenty-seven years old who wants to get married, but I cannot bear it; because in our country they demand a mahr of five to ten thousand dinars, and I do not possess anything except my salary, which is not enough for my own living and that of my family. So guide us, O Shaykh? How should I act? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
We advise you to fear Allah and be patient until you are able to marry. We also advise you to fast if that is possible for you; because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says in His great Book: [Al-Nur: 33]. So you are commanded to be chaste from what Allah has forbidden until Allah enriches you from His bounty, and you are able to marry.
We also advise you to fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Mishkat al-Masabih 3080. So if you are unable to marry, fear Allah and be patient, and strive to stay away from the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and from looking at women, or mixing with women, until Allah makes marriage easy for you. And if it becomes possible for you to borrow from some of your brothers, and you get married, Allah will repay it for you. Borrow from some of your brothers and get married, and be glad of good. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [Al-Nur: 32].
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1655Hasan (Darussalam). He mentioned among them: . And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 2387.
So if you take that in order to remain chaste, you are on the right path, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) will suffice you . If it becomes easy for you to find among your good brothers someone who will lend you money, or help you with the marriage, even if it is from a group—this one contributes so much, and that one contributes so much—until you get married, then that is appropriate. You should hasten to do so, out of concern for chastity and safety.
As for if that does not become possible, then be patient and persevere, and strive to gather what is possible of money until you are able to marry. May Allah make your affair easy, and help you with what is in your chastity and safety.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.

But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allah enriches them from His bounty.
We also advise you to fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserves you from immorality; but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting, for it is a means of suppressing sexual desire.
And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are three for whom it is a right upon Allah to help him
The one who marries seeking chastity
Whoever takes the money of the people with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it on his behalf
So if you take that in order to remain chaste, you are on the right path, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) will suffice you .
