The Narrated Supplications at the End of the Prayers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner asks: His Eminence the Shaykh, is there a specific supplication after every prayer, or does a person supplicate with whatever he wishes? Please clarify this for us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught the people the tashahhud, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:203, and in the other wording he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 402b. So it is prescribed for a person, after the tashahhud and after the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after seeking refuge with Allah from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal, to supplicate with whatever is easy for him before he says the taslim. And if he supplicates with the prescribed narrated supplications, that is better, such as: Sunan Abi Dawud 1522Sahih (Al-Albani), at the end of the prayer before he says the taslim: Sahih al-Bukhari 6326. This great supplication was taught by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and the first supplication: Sunan Abi Dawud 1522Sahih (Al-Albani), he taught it to Mu'adh.
And so it came in the hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 5445Sahih (Darussalam), and it came in the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to say at the end of the prayer: Sunan Abi Dawud 1509Sahih (Al-Albani).
So these narrated supplications are better than others, and if a person supplicates with other supplications for his benefit or his need, there is nothing wrong with it, such as saying: O Allah, pay off my debt, O Allah, rectify my offspring, O Allah, rectify my wife, O Allah, guide me to what brings Your pleasure, O Allah, guide me to the straight path,Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3483Da’if (Darussalam), and so on from what he supplicates with...... good supplications are fine, and the supplication: is narrated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught it to al-Husayn ibn 'Ubayd al-Khuzai when he embraced Islam; he taught it to him, saying: Say: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3483Da’if (Darussalam). And so: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 22:413.
The point is that one supplicates with good supplications, and if they are not narrated, there is nothing wrong with supplicating with them. O Allah, make it easy for me a righteous wife, if he is in need of a wife, and a woman says: O Allah, make it easy for me a righteous husband, and the like of that. O Allah, make it easy for me good offspring, O Allah, pay off my debt, O Allah, bless me in what You have given me, and the like of that from good supplications. Yes.

O Allah, forgive me my former and latter sins, what I have kept secret and what I have done openly, and what I have done extravagance; and what You know better than I do. You are the Advancer, the Delayer, there is no god but You."
اللهم اغفر لي ما قدمت وما أخرت وما أسررت وما أعلنت وما أسرفت وما أنت أعلم به مني، أنت المقدم وأنت المؤخر لا إله إلا أنتSo these narrated supplications are better than others, and if a person supplicates with other supplications for his benefit or his need, there is nothing wrong with it, such as saying: O Allah, pay off my debt, O Allah, rectify my offspring, O Allah, rectify my wife, O Allah, guide me to what brings Your pleasure, O Allah, guide me to the straight path,
O Allah, inspire me with my guidance, and protect me from the evil of my soul
