The Times When Supplications Are Answered
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What are the times when supplications are answered?
A: The times of response are numerous, and the Sunnah has clarified them. Among them are:
1- Between the adhan and the iqamah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 212Sahih (Darussalam).
2- Among them is the middle of the night and the last part of the night. There is an hour in the night in which no supplicant is turned away, and the most likely time for this is the middle of the night and the last part of the night—the last third. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4733Sahih (Al-Albani) The believer, male and female, should seek out these times and strive for good, comprehensive supplication in the middle of the night, in the last part of the night, and in any hour of the night. However, the last third and the middle of the night are more likely to be answered, provided one asks Allah by His beautiful names and His exalted attributes to answer the supplication, with persistence and repetition of the du'a. Persistence in this, having good opinion of Allah, and not despairing are among the greatest causes of response.
So a person should persist in supplication and have a good opinion of Allah , and know that He is Wise and All-Knowing. He may hasten the response for a wisdom, or delay it for a wisdom, or He may give the supplicant something better than what he asked for. As it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Mishkat al-Masabih 2259 They said: O Messenger of Allah, if we ask a lot? He said: And he should hope for the response from his Lord, and increase his seeking nearness to Allah by His names and attributes, (Blessed and Exalted is He), while being cautious of forbidden earnings and striving for good earnings; because bad earnings are among the causes of being deprived of response. There is no power and no strength except by Allah.
3- Prostration. Response is hoped for in it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani) And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 479a, and as for prostration, strive in supplication, for it is likely that it will be answered for you , meaning it is likely that it will be answered for you. Muslim narrated it in his Sahih.
4- When the imam sits on the pulpit on Friday for the sermon until the prayer is completed, this is a place of response.
5- The end of every prayer before the taslim. Supplication is prescribed in this time, and response is hoped for in this time because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them the tashahhud, he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 835.
6- The end of Friday day, after the 'Asr prayer until the setting of the sun, is among the times of response for the one who sits in a state of purity waiting for the Maghrib prayer. It is necessary to increase supplication between the 'Asr prayer and the setting of the sun on Friday, and to be sitting waiting for the prayer, because the one waiting is in the ruling of the one praying.
It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: and he indicated that it is a short hour. So his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): The scholars said: It means waiting for the prayer, for the one waiting has the ruling of the one praying, because the time of 'Asr is not a time for prayer.
So the conclusion is that the one waiting for the Maghrib prayer is in the ruling of the one praying. He should increase supplication before the setting of the sun. If he is in the mosque, then in the mosque; and if he is a woman or a sick person, then in the house, it is prescribed for him to do so. This is by purifying himself and waiting for the Maghrib prayer. All these times are times of response in which one should seek out supplication and increase in it, with sincerity to Allah, humility and brokenness before Allah, and dependence upon Him, (Blessed and Exalted is He), and increasing in praising Him. And one should begin the supplication with praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for beginning with praise of Allah and glorifying Him and sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is among the causes of acceptance, as the hadith is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this.
A: The times of response are numerous, and the Sunnah has clarified them. Among them are:
1- Between the adhan and the iqamah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The supplication made between the Adhan and Iqamah is not rejected.
2- Among them is the middle of the night and the last part of the night. There is an hour in the night in which no supplicant is turned away, and the most likely time for this is the middle of the night and the last part of the night—the last third. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Our lord gets down every night to the heaven of this world when a third night remains and says: (Is there anyone) who prays to Me so that I may accept his prayer? (Is there anyone) who asks of Me so that I may give him? (Is there anyone) who asks for my forgiveness so that I may forgive him?
So a person should persist in supplication and have a good opinion of Allah , and know that He is Wise and All-Knowing. He may hasten the response for a wisdom, or delay it for a wisdom, or He may give the supplicant something better than what he asked for. As it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Any Muslim who makes a supplication containing nothing which is sinful or which involves breaking ties of relationship will be given for it by God one of three things: He will give him as peedy answer, or store it up for him in the next world, or turn away from him an equivalent amount of evil.
Allah is more.
3- Prostration. Response is hoped for in it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The nearest a servant come to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication often.
So far as Ruk'u is concerned, extol in it the Great and Glorious Lord
4- When the imam sits on the pulpit on Friday for the sermon until the prayer is completed, this is a place of response.
5- The end of every prayer before the taslim. Supplication is prescribed in this time, and response is hoped for in this time because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them the tashahhud, he said:
Then select the invocation you like best and recite it.
It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
On Friday there is an hour in which no one asks Allah for anything while standing in prayer but Allah gives it to him.
He does not ask Allah for anything in it while standing in prayer.
So the conclusion is that the one waiting for the Maghrib prayer is in the ruling of the one praying.
