Ruling on compelling a financially capable father to give his needy son his monthly salary

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it obligatory for sons to give their father their monthly salaries if the son needs the money and his father is financially capable?

Answer:
It is not obligatory for children to give their salaries to their father if they are in need of them; rather, they give from what is surplus. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
It was narrated from 'Ubadah bin Samit that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ruled: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.”لا ضرر ولا ضرار
Sunan Ibn Majah 2340Da'if (Darussalam)
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Start with yourself, then with those you are responsible forابدأ بنفسك ثم من تعول
So a person starts with himself and his family, his wife and his children. If he has a surplus and gives it to his father, there is nothing wrong with that. However, if his father is poor, he must spend on him. It is obligatory for him to spend on his father along with his children. As for giving to him when he is not in need, no, it is not obligatory for him to do so, except after there is a surplus beyond his essential needs. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Start with yourself, then with those you are responsible forابدأ بنفسك ثم من تعول
, and in another hadith he said:
It was narrated from 'Ubadah bin Samit that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ruled: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.”لا ضرر ولا ضرار
Sunan Ibn Majah 2340Da'if (Darussalam)
, so the father has no right to harm his son, and the grandfather is the same. But the son gives to his father and his grandfather from what Allah has made easy, as a surplus over what is required of him. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good and do you good.
