Question:
The first message in this episode is from Al-Hudaydah, Yemen, sent by a listener who identified himself by the initials (A. S. F). Our brother says: I work as a nurse in the countryside. A child fell ill, so I gave him an injection to reduce his fever. Eight hours later, the child died. On another occasion, I gave an injection to a woman in her fifties, and one hour after the injection, she died. When I give an injection, I am confident that it is not dangerous. I am a righteous person—praise be to Allah—in all my work. After these two incidents occurred, I stopped doing this work and left this profession, except for my family members out of necessity. Is anything required of me regarding those who passed away? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
If you are skilled and knowledgeable about giving injections, and you have insight into what is appropriate for treatment via injection, then nothing is required of you, because you are exercising independent legal reasoning (ijtihad), and success is in the hand of Allah. However, if you do not know the diseases for which injections are appropriate, and you are guessing when giving injections, and you have no insight, then you are liable, because it is due to your actions. But if you are skilled in this matter, knowledgeable about it, and have insight that this disease is treated with an injection, and that the specific injection you gave is suitable, then there is no blame on you, and praise be to Allah.
The presenter : Allah is the One to be sought for help. May Allah reward you with good, and may He reward you.
