Ruling on the Multiplication of Tayammum Due to the Multiplication of Its Cause

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message reached us from Riyadh, from its sender Sulayman Muhammad al-Tamimi. He says: I became in a state of major ritual impurity in the wilderness, and I had no water for the full ritual bath, so I performed dry ablution with clean earth and prayed the dawn prayer with a group of people with me. When I returned to the tent, my wife asked me: How many times did you perform dry ablution with clean earth? I said: I performed it once. She said: You are required to perform it twice, one for the major ritual impurity and the second for the prayer. Is that correct or not?
Answer: No, that is not correct. For the one who is in a state of major ritual impurity, one dry ablution with clean earth is sufficient. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered 'Ammar to perform one dry ablution with clean earth for the prayer while he was in a state of major ritual impurity. So, if he strikes the earth with his hands and wipes with them his face and his forearms, that suffices for the major ritual impurity and for the state of minor ritual impurity. Because Allah said:
and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with itفَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ مِنْهُ
[Surat al-Ma'idah: 6]. So, the dry ablution with clean earth for the state of minor ritual impurity and the major ritual impurity is one dry ablution. Likewise, the woman who is affected by menstruation or post-natal bleeding, then she becomes pure from her menstruation and post-natal bleeding, it suffices for her one dry ablution with clean earth for the menstruation and for the state of minor ritual impurity, and after that she prays. This is the obligatory act. It is not required to perform two dry ablutions with clean earth: one for the state of minor ritual impurity and the second for the major ritual impurity. No, this is not required. The intention suffices for all of it. If she intends all of it, one dry ablution with clean earth suffices. Like the full ritual bath... like water. If she intends the full ritual bath for both purifications, it suffices. And although it is better in the full ritual bath that she performs the ablution for prayer and then performs the full ritual bath, as for dry ablution with clean earth, one dry ablution suffices. She strikes the earth with her hands once, then wipes with them her face and her forearms with the intention of the major and minor ritual impurities both, and that suffices for her, and praise be to Allah.
The presenter: Praise be to Allah.
