The Ruling on Kissing for the Fasting Person
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message is about the reality of Ramadan and marriage, which is close to it. This is Bashar Hussein Atiya saying: I got married just before Ramadan, and I am facing a big problem because the marriage is still new, or we are newlyweds. So sometimes I sleep in the room, and my wife comes to me, and I kiss her sometimes. Is there anything wrong with that or not? And I hope you will present my message to His Eminence Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Baz, may Allah guide you?
Answer: There is no blame on the husband for kissing his wife during the day in Ramadan or for sleeping with her, but he must avoid having sexual intercourse with her. It is not permissible for him to have intercourse during the day of fasting. As for his kissing his wife, or sleeping with her in the bed, or embracing her, all of this is permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss while fasting and have physical contact with his wives while fasting, and he was the best of people, the most God-fearing of people toward Allah, and the most complete of them in faith, peace and blessings be upon him. And 'Umar sought his permission in that matter, and he permitted him to kiss.
So the result is that there is no blame in that. It is narrated that an old man, meaning an elderly man, sought his permission to kiss, and he permitted him, and a young man sought his permission, and he did not permit him, and there is weakness in its chain of narration.
Some scholars said: He disliked it for the young man because the young man has a stronger desire. And in any case, the matter in this is broad, and this hadith is weak. The authentic, preserved hadiths indicate that there is no harm in kissing the wife absolutely, whether the husband is an old man or a young man, but with caution regarding intercourse. If his desire is strong and he fears that if he kisses her he will fall into intercourse, he does not kiss. But if he is not, if he controls himself, he can be able to kiss... he can be able to sleep with her... he can be able to embrace her, but without intercourse, then there is no blame in that, as the Master of Mankind did, peace and blessings be upon him. Yes.
