Your Eminence, Shaykh: Abdul Aziz! Last week, when we conducted some questions and inquiries with you, there was a message from the listener (M. A. A.) from Taiz, and a question remained regarding a hadith from the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She says: What is the meaning of the following hadith: Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bulugh al-Maram 2:21 It was narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah. We ask for your guidance on the meaning of this hadith. And peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
This is an authentic hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Its meaning is: The true dawn is that which lengthens across the horizon, spreads out, and brightens, and its light continues to increase until the dawn becomes clear. This is the true dawn in which food is forbidden for the fasting person and the Fajr prayer becomes permissible. As for the other dawn, which lengthens in the horizon and rises like the tail of a camel, stretching out, and then darkness follows it, this is called the false dawn. In this, prayer is forbidden and food becomes permissible for the fasting person; because it is night. This is the difference between them. So the true dawn is a dawn that lengthens in the horizon like the wings of a bird, meaning it spreads out and extends to the south and north until its light increases and the dawn becomes clearly visible. This is the true dawn in which food is forbidden for the fasting person and prayer becomes permissible due to the entry of its time.
As for the false dawn, it is that which lengthens in the horizon, meaning: it lengthens vertically toward the sky like a pillar, brightening, and then darkness follows it. This is called the false dawn, which deceives people, and some people think it is the dawn, but it is not the dawn. In this dawn, prayer does not become permissible and food does not become forbidden; because it is a false dawn. Yes.
Dawn is of two types; the dawn in which eating is forbidden (for the fasting person) and prayer is permitted and the dawn in which prayer is forbidden i.e. the morning prayer and eating is permitted.
