The Necessity of the Prospective Bride Knowing the Prospective Groom's Condition

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message from Riyadh, from its sender, a sister of Muhammad. She says in her question: We want you to direct a word to the mother when she comes to take her daughter's opinion regarding the suitor. How should she clarify this? We seek guidance from your eminence, may Allah reward you.
Answer: It is prescribed for the mother, and for others such as the father and brother, when they consult their daughter or sister regarding marriage, to say to her: So-and-so has proposed to you, and his description is such-and-such. So-and-so, son of so-and-so, is from a family whose description is such-and-such. He explains to her the man's condition and his family's condition, that they are people known for religion and goodness, and that their worldly condition is also acceptable. He advises her regarding what he sees of accepting the proposal or not. That is, he is a trustee, so it is obligatory for him to clarify the truth to her and not confuse the matter for her. He should not say that he is good when he is not good, nor say that he is handsome when he is not handsome, nor say that he is seeing when he is blind. He clarifies the truth to her as it is, explains the reality as it is, and advises her regarding taking him or not. This is the obligation of the mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, father, uncle, and brother. Each of these, if he wishes, clarifies to his ward or to the one with whom he has a connection the truth in the manner he learned from the suitor. And if it is facilitated that she sees him and he sees her, that is better; so that no doubt remains and no suspicion remains. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you proposes to a woman, if he is able to look at what would lead him to marry her, let him do so; for that is closer to establishing harmony between them.إذا خطب أحدكم المرأة فإن استطاع أن ينظر منها إلى ما يدعوه إلى نكاحها فليفعل؛ فإن ذلك أقرب إلى أن يؤدم بينهما
meaning: it is closer to them agreeing and harmony being established between them. And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man informed him that he had proposed to a woman from the Banu So-and-so, so he said:
Did you look at her? He said: No. He said: Go and look at her.هل نظرت إليها؟ قال: لا، قال: اذهب فانظر إليها
.
The point is: it is better that he looks at her and she looks at him if that is facilitated, but it should be without seclusion, by having someone with them, either her mother, her older sister, her father, her uncle, her brother, or the like. The suitor does not remain alone with the prospective bride. He looks at her, but in the presence of one with whom seclusion is removed, and he is safe from what he fears from seclusion. Yes.
