Ruling on one who broke her fast due to illness and then died
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter we received from the sender, Umm Muhammad, from Jeddah. She says: Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
My mother fell ill several months before Ramadan, and her illness continued until Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) chose her to be with Him. She fasted the month of Ramadan except for nine days. Although she was ill, she broke her fast on these days for the sake of treatment. However, she told me that she wished to make up these nine days after the month of Ramadan ended. But she passed away. Is it permissible for me to make up these nine days, or what should I do? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with every good.
Answer: As long as she died while ill, there is no making up of fasts required of her, nor feeding of the poor. This is the correct position. As long as her mother died while ill, she owes no making up of fasts and no feeding of the poor; rather, it is excused for her. Yes.
